Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary recently made as a tiger reserve is situated in the Palakkad district of the Indian state of Kerala. Though it is situated in Kerala, one have to enter into Parambikulam trough Tamil Nadu. The sanctuary is a very well maintained place and one and not even point out a piece of plastic or waist in the sanctuary. Hats off to the wildlife warden of Parambikukam Mr. Sanjayan Kumar, IFS for maintaining it in such an efficient form.

Parambikulam Tiger Reserve is well known for it’s very rich bio diversity. One can find a verity of wild animals and birds here. More about Parambikulam is found Here

The Nilgiri Tahr (Nilgiritragus hylocrius) It is known locally as the Nilgiri Ibex or simply Ibex. In the Tamil Language it is called warryato or “varaiaadu”, the term being composed of two Tamil words, wurrai a precipice, and aadu, a goat.

The Nilgiri Tahrs are stocky goats with short, coarse fur and a bristly mane. Males are larger than the females, and have a darker color when mature. Both sexes have curved horns, which are larger in the males, reaching up to 40 cm for males and 30 cm for females. Adult males weigh 80–100 kg and stand about 100 cm tall at the shoulder. Adult males develop a light grey area or “saddle” on their backs and are hence called “saddlebacks”. (Source: Wiki)
